For the week of October 6th....
Plans for the week ahead
The usual round-up of activities, plus the boys are going in for their well-checks this week and we are heading to the beach for one last quick get-away before the cold weather sets in. I am hoping for mostly decent weather and for everyone to stay healthy! There is a lot of stuff going around right now and I am afraid I am becoming a bit of a germ-o-phobe!
Cold weather. We stacked a bunch of firewood last weekend and sorted out clothes for everyone. We did some shopping for those that needed it. Next up is shoe shopping for those that need it and getting the outerwear organized, like all those mismatched mittens and gloves. Where the other one goes, I will never know. If both gloves would just go missing it would be so much easier. This year I am determined not to wait until the last minute to buy snow pants and gloves, because the last minute is when everyone buys them and then they are impossible to find.
I think we will have a light week this week, maybe just half-days. Or maybe no days, we shall see! We picked a bunch of apples and I need to deal with them. I also want to order our Bookshark 6 books, I really need to clean the house, I am sure there is a long list of errands to run before our little beach trip, and the yard is a mess of leaves, though I may or may not deal with those!
Out of doors
We had first a rainy, and then a really nice and sunny weekend. The leaves are changing color and they are pretty, but they are also everywhere. I do like the sound of them underfoot when I am outside doing chores, though. I think this week I may pull up some of the parsnips we have in the garden. They look very nice from the top, so hopefully there will be some nice roots underground. If not, I will be pretty disappointed. I am very excited at the thought of roasting my own parsnips. It's the little things, you know.
In the kitchen
Apples! We have a huge bag, so I need to make some time this week to make applesauce and maybe apple butter. And if there is time, an apple crisp and an apple pie.
Watching & reading
I am reading The Heretics Daughter and it is a good, though definitely unsettling read. During the rain this weekend I took Rose to see Box Trolls, which we both loved, and the other kids went to see The Maze Runner, which they enjoyed. We also watched Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 at home, and it was okay, but not anything terribly special.
And photos from the weekend, when we made some progress on that October fun list!
We successfully navigated a corn maze and picked a nice big bag of apples. Now it feels like fall!
Have a wonderful week!
