A random list of happenings this week
Settling into our second week of homeschooling, lots of time in the pool-because it was hot for a change, our first ripe tomato, getting our swing set fixed, finally....(it was hit by a tree in a bad storm we had two months ago), finishing our 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle, and spending as much time at home as possible, because next week is going to be crazy! Oh, and here are the potatoes we grew this year. I am pretty happy with them! Obviously they will not feed us all winter or anything, but they did way better than I expected given that I gave up picking bugs off them after two weeks!
Plans & thoughts for the week ahead
I am feeling a bit exhausted and overwhelmed looking at next week's calendar. Pretty much all of the kids activities start up next week and life is going to be very full. I am in the process of trying to plot everything out on paper to see how I can fit things together and fit things in. I am thinking I will have to very, very deliberate about how my time is spent.
We are settling into our homeschool routine fairly well. It has been a bit tiring to juggle everything with four kids officially homeschooling. Our days are longer than I am used to. We definitely can't finish by lunch anymore! I am just hanging in there and hoping things will settle down in the weeks ahead. We are also finding ways here and there to trim some of the excess and condense some things. I do always over plan! I have also been heading upstairs to lie down for 10-15 minutes every afternoon. This has been a huge help in giving me enough energy for our afternoon activities and putting dinner together. Christopher finished Teaching Textbooks 5 the same day TT6 arrived. I am not sure he is looking forward to diving right in, but I feel pretty pleased whenever we finish a book!
Out of doors
We have been hiking a lot this summer and I have really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to some nice walks in cooler temperatures though! We are at that point with Rose where she can finally walk a few miles mostly on her own, though she does usually at some point need a piggy-back ride. The leaves are starting to turn here, just a little bit of red here and there. It seems early, but then, it does every year.
In the kitchen
I miss baking. It has been too hot and we have been busy with our new routine so I have not made cookies or bread or anything like that in ages. I have been trying to get in the habit of planning breakfasts because we seem to be stuck in a rut and the kids don't like cereal. There are only so many eggs we can eat. I really like overnight baked oatmeal at this time of year, when the mornings are a little cooler. This is one of our go-to recipes.
Watching & reading
We have not really watched much of anything lately! Without the kids we are watching episodes of Mad Men from Netflix. I am reading Black Coffee, because I am on a bit of an Agatha Christie kick. I tried reading The Luminaries, and I am sure it is good, but it was just so wordy that I could not focus on it before bed!
Two Photos......from recent walks

I hope you have a great weekend!
