Monday Musings

***Outside my window...The sun is setting, I am late writing this post due to the Easter holiday yesterday and some extra merry-making today. The weather has been just lovely. Best time of year really, before all the pesky bugs come out!

***Things I'm thinking about...Oh, lots of things, as usual. I am still planning a bridal shower. Still putting off doing a thorough clean of the chicken coops (can't imagine why) and still waffling over our choices for next year. Just when I thought I had Rose's year all planned out I started rethinking some of it. Mostly the language arts parts, I always seem to get stuck on writing & grammar for some reason.

***Barn & garden happenings...If I could keep the darn chickens out, the garden would be doing great! Lots of little things sprouting up all over and unfortuantely two or three chickens that defy the fence and gate somehow and constantly need to be chased away from the pea seeds. I shudder to think what they are doing out there when I am not home. They might have to go under house (coop) arrest for awhile.

***In our kitchen... The boys are cooking this week and they are going to try their hand at lasagna. My kitchen is overflowing with Easter candy right now. My kids have some very sweet and generous relatives and they always get way too much candy. It is about all I can do not to eat jellybeans all day long.

*** In our homeschool...I never did get around to figuring out grammar for James last week. I am trying to focus on just one thing a week to plan for next year. I think this week I am just going to focus on reading The Writer's Jungle again.

***Creating...Well, Easter baskets. And that's about all I remember creating last week.

***Reading and watching... We watched Hop the night before Easter. This week we plan to watch Apollo 13 and some more of The Story of India. We also watched Bernie without the kids and really enjoyed it.

***A few plans for the week ahead... It should be a quieter week than last, thankfully. The plans include the usual-gymnastics, archery, a riding lesson, rock climbing, homeschool a couple of family visits. I am also working on sorting the kids warmer weather clothes to figure out what they need and starting to plan a little trip for next month.

Have a wonderful week!

  1. We keep meaning to watch Apollo 13 too!

I swear writing has become the bane of my existence lately. I keep waffling between the Brave Writer approach, and just using an already-made curriculum. Grr.

  2. Try stringing some unelectrified hot wire about six inches above the top rail of your garden fence. Chickens don't really fly over fences, they fly up and land, then fly down. The wire helps keep them from perching on top first. -Ali D.

  3. I don't know what it is about writing! And I haven't even started thinking about my two oldest and their writing, although they are the ones I actually need to worry about- I just keep putting it off.

Thanks for the suggestion about the wire- we are going to try that. Hopefully that will be enough to deter them. I came home this afternoon to three goats and two chickens wreaking havoc in the garden and I was definitely not amused.

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment!
