Monday Musings

***Outside my window...Same old news. Still cold. Still windy. And icy. This winter is really trying my spirits.

***Things I'm thinking about...Cars-not really a terribly interesting thing to think about, to me anyway! But we are in need of a new one, so it must be done. I just never realized just how time-consuming shopping for a good family car can be!

***Barn & garden happenings...I think it will be another week in which the temperatures are just too cold to tap our trees. The garden is so covered in ice and snow that I haven't ventured in to look at my cold frame in weeks. I had high hopes of keeping some stuff alive overwinter, but no such luck, I'm afraid.

***In our kitchen...I'm using Mardi Gras as an excuse to make jambalaya this week. Also, when I made my usual menu plan and grocery list for the week I decided I would plan for lunches too. I am getting tired of scrapping around every day for something to give the kids for lunch! Now that they eat more, we almost never have leftovers from dinner. On this week's lunch list...quesadillas, black beans and rice, English muffin pizzas, and red lentil curry.

*** In our homeschool...Rose is really enjoying The Ordinary Parent's Guide to Teaching Reading.  The kids took the National Mythology Exam last week, which was pretty painless. They were a little stressed out about filling in those little bubbles though-one of those things you miss out on when you homeschool! It really brought me back to those standardized test days of my childhood!
***Creating...I finally started my cowl, but it is going to be slow going. I have no plans to wear it this winter, certainly, but it will be nice to have something new to wear next winter. And for the next few weeks I will be planning a bridal shower, which I think also counts as creative;).

***Reading and watching... We watched The Croods with the kids. Rose is on a Scooby Doo kick lately. I am still reading The Goldfinch and suspect I will be for quite awhile. It is so nice to have a good, long book, isn't it?

***Weekend between car shopping, indoor mini-golf, and some errands, we stopped at a greenhouse and brought home some spring.

Much better. Have a wonderful week!
