When we signed up for the National Mythology Exam months ago, it seemed so far away that we didn't bother to start preparing for it. Then it was the holidays, and I try to never start anything new during the holidays.
Fast forward to today when I realized that the kids will be taking the exam in a little over a month! We should probably start getting ready! I am on a mission to set aside a half-hour or so a day to read through the books with the kids and help them get ready.
This will be our first time taking the NME and I am pretty excited about it, probably more so than the kids who will actually be taking it!
James and Christopher will be reading from D' Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths. Grace will read D'Aulaire's, plus The Myths of Greece and Rome and D'Aulaires' Book of Norse Myths (for her subtest).
We did not get the teaching packets offered by ETC, but I did find a few free online sources, just in case we feel like we need something else.

Printable Mythology Cards
There is also a study guide by Memoria Press, which I debated buying, but I am going to hold off and see how it goes. My kids are pretty passionate about this topic and I don't want to overdo things, so I think we will just focus on the books themselves. We will definitely look over the sample exam though.
You can sign up for the National Mythology Exam here. They have extended the deadline an extra week, to January 22nd, 2014.
Till Next Time!
