Monday Musings

For the week of December 16th....

***Outside my window...We got around six inches of snow over the weekend. Given that we already had a few inches on the ground, more is coming this week, and the temperatures are going to be absurdly low....I think we are in pretty good shape for a white Christmas.

***Things I'm thinking about...Slowing it down. It is so hard to keep things peaceful this time of year when there is so much to do. I am determined to keep some peaceful pockets in the busy though.

***Barn & garden happenings...The kids are in charge of coming up with gifts for the animals out there this week. This is not because I say the goats need Christmas gifts, but because the kids think they do. Which is totally fine by me, as long as I don't have to come up with the ideas!

***In our kitchen...A fruitcake definitely. I never liked fruitcake until we made this one. Now we make it every year. And now I love fruitcake.

*** In our homeschool...I received Life of Fred Elementary Physics the other day for Grace to start after break. Not much else to report!

***Creating...I started the second half of the poncho I feel like I have been making forever. I have so many little things I would like to do this week, but know I won't fit them all in. Trying to resign myself to one little project a day. If that.

***Reading and watching... We are a bit behind on our Christmas viewing, I think. We need to play catch-up this week for sure.

***A few plans for the week....Reading Christmas picture books. Drinking lots of tea. Staying home as much as possible, but I still have a bit of shopping to do. Trying not to stress. It'll all get done. Hopefully.

****A photo from last week...My older two have been playing a kind of "Elf on the Shelf" game for my younger two. Except instead of the regular Elf on the Shelf (which honestly kind of creeps me out), they are using a stuffed Yukon Cornelius from "Rudolph". Every morning he is caught in the middle of something....the other day he was scaling the hutch to get a bag of jelly beans.

Hope you have a great week!

  1. Yukon Cornelius is way better than that creepy elf. I'm rather jealous of that snow! Well, assuming the roads are plowed, of course... I'd love a white Christmas!

  2. Love Yukon Cornelius! And that fruitcake actually looks good! How does LoF Physics look?

  3. Haven't had a chance to look at it yet-it's one of my after-holiday to-do's! I debated about skipping it till after the pre-algebra books since some folks said it is better there, but then decided to just go with what the author suggests.
