Monday Musings

For the week of November 4, 2013

Outside My Window...November is coming in windy. And a bit rainy. It hasn't been terribly cold yet, just enough to wear a sweater.

Things I'm Thinking About...Planning some fun Thanksgiving stuff to do with the kids in the week before Thanksgiving. I ordered Eating the Plates and 1621: A New Look at Thanksgiving. I think those will be our starting points, plus a few projects- I have loads of things bookmarked so I just need to narrow down.

On the Farm...I need to get the garlic in this week. No excuses.

In Our Kitchen....I want to make ice cream pie this week with some of the leftover Halloween candy. I made pear jam over the weekend, and I really think it is my absolute favorite kind of jam. A November tradition in the making, I believe.
In Our Homeschool... We did not end up making our Chinese meal for The Story About Ping last week, so that is this week's top priority. James is starting a new handwriting book this week-you can imagine his excitement, ha ha.

Creating....I am working on a pair of wrist warmers. One down, one to go. This is a much quicker project than the afghan was! Speaking of which, here it is. It is super simple. I literally just knit 12 inch squares and sewed them all together. It was pretty forgiving too. I did not get all my squares the same size, but it all knit together fine...just don't look too definitely has some handcrafted charm;).

Reading and Watching... We watched another episode of The Story of US. I think the kids will be sad to see the end of this series! I read The Shining Girls, which was good, but a little too creepy for me, I think.

A Few Plans For the Week Ahead...Bathroom renovations are underway, forced by a spur-of-the-moment demolition of our old, ugly bathtub. It will be good though, I have waited a long time to see this bathroom redone!

Hope you have a great week!

  1. Handcrafted charm, love it! I'm definitely going to describe my knitting that way from now on. I would love to have the recipe for the pear jam. Do you have a link for it, or is it your own recipe? I've been enjoying your blog for a while now, and figured it was time to finally comment. Thanks for all the great posts!

  2. I am glad you commented! Thanks for visiting! I found the recipe in my Ball Book, but this one seems to be the same: The Ball Book one also added in a teaspoon of cinnamon, which was nice. It's very sweet though-a little bit goes a long way!

Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment!
