Just means our planning for next year is already started;).
We enjoyed this break from our regular learning so much, I wanted to do something similar for Thanksgiving. No lapbooks this time around though. The kids like them, I think they learned a ton, but they aren't exactly stress-free for me! All that scissor assistance, helping with the layout, taking all the little dictations for those who can't write small enough, helping everyone with research-it's a lot of work!
I was lucky enough to find this book at the library and I think it will be perfect. This is our unit study, right here. A story and activity book in one that is good for all the ages we have here. The story centers around a pioneer family getting ready for Thanksgiving. It includes a lot of information about Thanksgiving in those days and the pioneer period in general. And there are several hands-on ideas, like games to play, recipes, and crafts.
I am greatly resisting the temptation to add any more to it. Simple is best!
Okay, maybe I will add in making butter-we do that every year. But that's it!
You know, you're only giving me ideas here. Our library has this book, so I placed a hold on it, and her Pioneer Sampler one. Strangely enough, they don't have the first book, "A Pioneer Story". Oh well, I am sure this will be plenty of fun!
ReplyDeleteUnit studies are such FUN!!! Sadly I think I overdone the Holidays when my kids were smaller because now they hate anything that is Holiday based :(
