I just haven't been finding the time lately to write here. I told myself this week would be better, so we shall see! The truth it is incredibly crazy busy homeschooling four kids, especially with our extracurriculars starting up this week. It seems I am running from one thing to the next all day long, and I have very little time to sit down to the computer....and if I do I am so tired I can't put down thoughts that make sense!
Right now, in the back of my mind, I am trying to come up with ways to streamline our routine a bit. We are trying to follow our loop plan, and for the most part it is still working well. We have changed things up a bit, and I'll eventually update our routine, but basically we do...
-one hour math (really it takes more like 1 1/2 hours)
-one hour content subjects
-one hour language arts
-1/2 hour languages (Latin and Spanish)
-one hour or so catching up on whatever needs doing or didn't get done in the proper slots
I love this plan in theory, but with the afternoon activities starting up and the number of appointments we've had lately we have really only been getting the first three hours of our day done. And it's really hard to get much done with four kids in just three hours, without feeling totally rushed and stressed.
So I am considering some things that may or may not help, and we'll be trying these out over the next few weeks.
1. Starting earlier. We start at 8:30 now, I'm considering pushing that back to 8, if we can manage it!
2. Having the kids take along some work to do at a sibling's class. I always swore I wouldn't do this, but I think it might be necessary at this point.
3. Trying to fit in time for a walk in our woods every day. This is not going to be helpful with streamlining! But it is something I would really, really like to try to get in, maybe even before we start working-going to think on this...
